Hammer and Hardie Intensive Workshop
The Chicago Mosaic School
Feb 4-5, March 31-April 1 , June 3-4, July 14-15 2017

This intensive 2 day overview will give participants detailed instruction how to cut material using the hammer and hardie . Students will learn how to cut materials such as stone, marble and smalti more quickly with a minimal amount of waste. The class will examine the specific characteristics of materials such( for example learning about hardness or structure of the stone and smalti). The class will include demonstrations on how to reduce the size of natural materials and how to create elements with the use a water saw. Student will also learn about proper maintenance, sharpening and care of the hammer and hardie. This class is intended for all levels, from beginning to those who may already have experience but would like to brush up on their techniques. You are welcome to bring your own hammers and materials if you wish.
