The vast array of materials, tools, adhesives, substrates, that can be used to create mosaic art can sometimes leave our imagination frozen among the engineering challenges required to make it happen. Through a combination of lecture, open discussion and hands on work students will gain a thorough understanding of what it takes construct a successful finished piece. Knowing what, where when and why of your tile, tools and substrates frees you to focus on the creative aspects of any project. All participants will be introduced variety of cutting tools and methods, the importance of selecting the correct substrates, adhesives, and tesserae for their intended environment, hanging mechanisms & installation techniques. Each student will work on studio studies using an assortment of mosaic tools and materials. This is a technical workshop is meant to give anyone a solid base of for creating mosaic art, and more importantly, move forward with confidence as you tackle whatever creative concept lies ahead.
Materials
Participant to Bring: Wheeled glass nipper, ceramic nipper, palette knife/spreader for adhesives and any other tools they feel they want from there studio.
Instructor will provide: All adhesives, mosaic materials and substrates along with a variety of tools for student to test and experiment with.
Owner of WitsEnd Mosaics and Smalti.com, Kim Wozniak is trained in art, architectural design, and construction and has found her voice in mosaics. After leaving the corporate world Kim reclaimed her creative spirit by combining her love of art and knowledge of building materials and techniques. Her rule-breaking style was quickly recognized in the mosaic community and has led her to create both public and private installations around the globe. She has participated in large collaborative mosaic projects in Chile, Germany and Italy, and her fine art mosaics are exhibited internationally. She has studied the medium of mosaics with masters from Italy, Mexico and the US.
