“‘Love Birds’ is a pair of seahorses in love. There are 45 different species of seahorses.
I was inspired by them, not only by their charismatic and delicate appearance but, by acknowledging the fact that some species of seahorses live together and paired for life with the same pair. Also, the male has a true reversed pregnancy. The female transfer her eggs to the male which self-fertilizes in his pouch. The eggs receive everything they need in the pouch, from oxygen to food.
The number of eggs can be from 50-150 for smaller species, 1500 in larger species. The gestation time varies from 14 days to 4 weeks. Giving birth can be a long process with contractions lasting up to 12 hours.”
