Session 9A May 13, 2020, 8:00am – 5:00pm
Session 9B May 14, 2020, 8:00am – 5:00pm
Price: $310 (includes materials fee $35)
In this course, students will select, adapt and create an 8” x 8” mosaic wall fragment of a bird using the Greek reverse cast method… with a few modern twists. The workshop will begin with a short lecture and images of historic Greek bird fragments. Next, Barbara will discuss the ancient Greek style and color pallet. Then, students will select and adapt supplied images. Finally, students will spend the majority of the day creating their mosaics. At the end of the day, students will have a finished mosaic still in its original cast mold, wrapped in plastic, which should fit nicely in their suitcase to take home. This session will be fun for students of any level of mosaic experience, including beginners. It should particularly benefit those who are interested in historical mosaic, style, and those who are interested in techniques for wall decor, walkways and floors. Students should bring wheeled cutters, tweezers and nippers.
After receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of North Texas, Barbara Dybala accepted a designer position with American Airlines where she created magazine designs for their publication department. In 1999, she met then marketing director, Lori Wilkenson of Coca-Cola. Lori asked her to create some unusual mosaic with Coke products. This was the beginning of Barbara’s mosaic art life. After 15 years, Barbara left American Airlines, and has since devoted her creative life to mosaics. Today, Barbara lives her art at Hidden Mosaic in Rockwall, Texas. She makes commissioned artwork and offers classes and workshops at the Creative Art Center of Dallas and Hidden Mosaic. BarbaraDybala.com
