Today’s featured SAMA member is Kathy Thaden.
She writes about her work: Kathy Thaden’s mosaics range from abstracts to commissioned work. Inspired by the Rockies and desert Southwest, she seeks to understand our surroundings and our role within society, expressing care for all creation and humanity. A full-time studio artist, Kathy is a professional member of the Society of American Mosaic Artists, Episcopal Church & Visual Arts, and founding member and Past-President of Colorado Mosaic Artists. Kathy teaches mosaic workshops and leads mosaic retreats in Colorado and New Mexico.
“As an artist, my work is informed by my faith – expressing awe at creation and the Creator. As a mosaicist, I treasure glass and stone scraps or discarded items from our “throw-away” consumer culture. It is important to me that nothing be wasted, finding beauty in what was once broken.”
