In Memoriam: Bill Buckingham

Bill’s contributions and commitment to SAMA’s mission to educate, inspire and promote mosaic arts defined the spirit of generosity within our community. Bill’s gifts of both time as webmaster and board member and financial support as a sponsor for several years, afforded this organization a great volume of productivity and growth during very difficult times.  These gifts would not have been made possible without the equal support provided by his husband and business partner, Michael Welch to whom we are forever grateful for sharing Bill with us.   We ask that the SAMA family return this generosity to Michael, their families and their team at Mosaic Rocks and Mosaic Art Now during this difficult time.

While the SAMA Board of Trustees, Staff and Volunteers are deeply saddened by this loss, we know his contributions and influence extended well beyond our SAMA family to artists and friends both in his New England community as well as the mosaic community all over the world.  Many of these thoughts are being shared right now on the Mosaic Art Now blog.  We encourage you to reach out and support each other during this time.

Thank you Bill for giving us your humor, intelligence, open heart and open mind.  You will inspire and motivate us as artists, volunteers, business people and most of all humans for as long as the classic Roman mosaics you so loved will.  Like the classic mosaics, Bill, you will be forever timeless!
