Ilana Shafir
A new documentary on the life of Ilana Shafir debut’s on Bayerischer Rundfunk, the public television station of Bavaria. It will be broadcast nationally across Germany as well as in select cities in Austria, Switzerland, and Tirol.
Keep in mind this version of the film is in German with no subtitles. Still, it provides English-speaking viewers with a glimpse into Ilana’s family life, her studio, her mosaic garden, her paintings, and events such as exhibition openings and workshops.
The documentary, titled My Paradise of Shards, was filmed during October 2013, half a year before Ilana passed away. It tells the story of an artist and holocaust survivor who has rebuilt her life through her artwork.
The documentary is directed by Anna Katrin Schneider and produced by Isabel Gathof. It is a co-production between Feinshmeker Film, the University of Television and Film Munich (HHF), and Bayerischer Rundfunk. It will be broadcast as part of a long-running documentary series called “Life Lines” (“Lebenslinien”). This upcoming broadcast will be in German with no subtitles. However, the production team is planning additional subtitled versions of the film, including English and likely even Hebrew, for distribution in film festivals around the globe.
