The opening of my new gallery in Burgundy, France—Gallery D’Art Elaine M Goodwin—was wonderful! Over 150 guests came to celebrate at the vernissage on 4 November.
People travelled from near and far in Europe and ranged from collectors and the cognoscenti, to the delightful and warmhearted people of my new village of Couches. See my website for photos.
52 bottles of local champagne were drunk, and a marvelous time was had by all. The welcoming speech by the mayor of Couches, Emil Leconte, waxed poetic and almost made me blush with the warmth of its welcome and his own admiration and perceptive insights into my work.
The theme of the exhibition was Icônes de Lumière (Icons of Light) and there were over 40 pieces displayed, including two new works—barely dry—completed since my arrival: one was termed Affirmation and the other, Vine Lights. My gallery is minutes from the famous wine region of France, The Côtes D’Or, and the colours and terrain cannot fail to inspire with its exquisite beauty and symbolism.
The weekend following, I threw open the doors of the gallery (Portes Ouvertes) from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm, and welcomed the many visitors—from the curious to new collectors!
I now invite all members and friends of SAMA to visit me and my gallery.
(I am near Paris—one and a quarter hours away on the fast TGV train—and also very near Paray Le Monial, a contemporary mosaic centre about half an hour away by car). The exhibitions will change from time to time and I shall invite other artists in a variety of media to exhibit with me. I can assure you of a warm welcome and most certainly a glass of Burgundy Crement!
Very best – Elaine
