Mosaic artist, Linda Purrazzella (Hampton Mosaics) of Southampton, NY presented “Community Intertwined” at the second annual JumpstART, where the arts took center stage in downtown Riverhead on August 7, 2015. Public arts installations were visited all evening and Linda, herself, presented a hands-on mosaic demonstration at River & Roots Community Garden Pathway at Grangebel Park. Inspiration for the project came from her participation in the Mosaic Marathon in Philly, her first SAMA conference.
“People will participate in making it, beginning the night of the event,” Purrazzella said. “Creating a community mosaic installation is a very powerful experience.”
JumpstART is an exercise in “creative placemaking,” an effort that leverages the power of the arts, culture and creativity to animate public and private spaces, rejuvenate structures and streetscapes, improve local business viability and public safety, and bring diverse people together to celebrate, inspire, and be inspired, according to the National Endowment for the Arts.
