THE THEORY OF THE INTERACTION OF COLOR : The color theory applied to mosaic art is particularly important for mosaic artists who are always in search of new approaches to their composition and color and have intrinsic features with cannot be ignored. The color theory as taught in the Spilimbergo school will be explored by a brief theoretical introduction and applied working on optical mixtures of primary and secondary colors creating vibrating surfaces. The mosaic will be a gradient of colors that form an abstract work and students can choose one of two color design studies (Spiral or color block). Students will learn to identify the colors that when mixed give the perception of a third color when viewed from a distance. Palette, combinations, mix of color and color gradation will be explored with a brief theoretical introduction and a hands-on approach and exercises designed to gain greater ease in applying color into the work. Master of Mosaic, Marzia Truant, will explain techniques to make colors work together, to be more vibrant or subtle, bold or harmonious. We will be using Donà Spilimbergo Venetian smalti and the Direct method, using mosaic wheeled nippers Students will create a 9” x 9” piece Class will be held in the charming studio owned my mosaic tile manufacturer, Mercedes Austin, in her play studio called "Mosaic Candy Shop" in the arts district of NE Minneapolis. | |
