As a counterpoint to his presentation of historic American mosaic, Ted Ellison explains how he has brought this inspiration into his work through modern techniques and materials. Ted Ellison has built a 20+ year career designing a distinctive body of work for fine homes all over the country. He will present his process, from idea to installation, through an in-depth, illustrated seminar that focuses on creating original work for the domestic market. This presentation will feature several case studies to provide an understanding of mosaic artists looking to explore new ideas and techniques in their work. Ted will share his experiences from completing over 500 domestic commissions from the perspective of working with clients, creating original designs, adapting project-specific fabrication methods, and photographing finished work.
Theodore Ellison studied art and apprenticed in a glass studio before starting his leaded glass and mosaic business in 1998. Honoring the artistic integrity of the Arts & Crafts tradition, he’s created original designs for homes all over the country. His work has appeared in Fine Homebuilding, Old House Interiors, Style 1900 and Old House Journal. He’s written on the history of glass for American Bungalow and presented on the history of mosaic at the National Arts & Crafts Conference in Asheville and the Pasadena Heritage Craftsman Weekend.
