Working directly on thinset is one of the best techniques for creating many mosaic projects on a small or large scale, on flat or 3D substrates. Students will learn to work in sections by ‘dividing’ their cartoon and to create work using a thick mortar bed for their tessera. The class will discuss the different kinds of thinset and their properties, see how to transfer the drawing, color the mortar, how to find the correct thickness of the mortar bed, and how deep to set the tesserae, etc. During this 3-day workshop, students will work on a 12″x14″ substrate and are encouraged to bring a drawing, sketch or pictures from which to choose a final image. Previous hammer and hardie experience is required. All materials and use of tools is provided.
SAMA members who are enrolled at the Professional, Corporate, or Patron levels who wish to list their classes here can enter information in the Member Portal, “Website Forms” page.
