This workshop will help you unleash Your Creativity by Creating Unique Tessera for Stunning Mosaic Artworks. It offers a brilliant solution for artists tired of the limitations of traditional mosaic materials. Imagine crafting your own lightweight, vibrantly colored tesserae, perfectly tailored to bring your unique artistic vision to life! This innovative resin casting workshop empowers you with essential skills, guiding you through measuring, mixing, and coloring resin to create stunning custom shapes. You’ll explore casting in diverse molds, learn to achieve intricate designs and dazzling colors, and even discover how to make versatile resin strings for added dimension in your mosaics.

Led by an experienced sculptor with a rich background in mold making, casting, and a keen eye for color theory, this is more than just a workshop—it’s a transformative artistic journey. You’ll gain invaluable insights, personalized guidance, and product recommendations designed to help you achieve your creative goals. Prepare to elevate your craft, unlock your full potential, and truly bring your artistic dreams to life!

Maria Sarmiento is a passionate, versatile, and highly motivated artist and educator with extensive experience teaching sculpture in Fine Arts and Art Foundations in design universities. A native of Colombia and resident of Atlanta, Georgia, Maria’s work is inspired by nature and ancient cultures (pre-historic and pre-Colombian), and evokes spirituality as well as a sense of transcendence.

Maria describes her work as a medium to express inner spiritual growth. She connects with common symbols of cultures and explores emerging forms in diverse materials, and transforms traditional symbols into her own. Her sculptural art includes different methods such as cast metals, cement, steel, mosaic, and recycled materials. Maria’s background includes broad knowledge and expertise in artistic glass, from mosaic, stained, to cast and fused.

Recognized as a passionate educator, lifelong advocate of continued learning and advancement, and prolific, creative artist, Maria’s expertise in multiple media includes foundation art classes, Sculpture, Foundry and Advanced Sculpture. She has the ability to reach learners at all levels and ignite a thirst for learning within them to the maximum extent possible. Maria’s current and past teaching assignments include Kennesaw State University, Georgia State University, The Art Institute of Atlanta, Metro Academic Studies, and Sarmineto Studio LLC.

Maria received her Master of Fine Arts degree in Sculpture from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia and her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Universidad de Bogota Jorge Tadeo Lozano in Bogota, Colombia. She is a member of the International Sculpture Center (ISC) and leadership appointments include Board of Directors and Chair of the Recognition Committee and social media for Mid-South Sculpture Alliance (MSA) and Co-Chair of the Mid-South Sculpture Conference.
