JeanAnn Dabb was a professor of art history at the University of Mary Washington, Fredericksburg, VA for over 20 years, teaching courses in ancient and medieval art, the history of mosaics and the films of Alfred Hitchcock, earning several teaching awards. She also exhibited her own art and curated art exhibitions extensively. But to SAMA, JeanAnn was an ardent and influential supporter and was an important leader in SAMA’s very early days.
As an influential contributor to SAMA in the formative years, she is one of only eight recipients of the SAMA Service award for 5+ years service on the SAMA Board of Trustees in 2009 and continued to supply Groutline with many informative articles and book reviews until very recently. In 2007, JeanAnn began creating the Mosaic Arts International Gallery Exhibition Guide with her students at UMW. The Gallery Guide became a key educational tool for SAMA to expand the exhibition viewer’s mosaic vocabulary through the MAI program.
Groutline will present a tribute to JeanAnn in the January 2016 issue. Contributions to the tribute can be emailed to communications@americanmosaics.org.
