Tami Macala writes: The work I am sharing is a combination of some of my purchases at past SAMA Art Salons, one of my 100 Moment pieces, and a gift from a fellow mosaicist, Yulia Hanansen.
The first is a piece I purchased at the Detroit SAMA Art Salon by Cynthia Fisher called “Complimentary Colors” and I love it. It is so vibrant and it is in my kitchen and I see it every morning when I get up to make my coffee.

The second is a piece I purchased at the Detroit SAMA Art Salon by Julie Sperling called “Enough (Size Matters)” This is a magical piece and the photo that is displayed with the mosaic is the rock it was created from and not one bit of the rock is not used in the mosaic, down to the rock dust. Julie is an incredibly talented mosaic artist and her andamento and use of small pieces are incredible.

Third, is a piece I purchased at the Nashville SAMA Art Salon by Anabella Wewer called “Hi/Low.” This piece is created from shale from the Highlands and the Lowlands of Scotland. I love the andamento in this piece. How she used the shale on both its side and flat. I love the small pieces making the subtle curve in the middle of her lines. I love the small bits of gold that shimmer when the light hits it the right way. This piece hangs on a wall that gets the afternoon light and is beautiful.

The fourth piece is one of mine. It is from the 2018 season of 100 Moments that was exhibited at SOFA in Chicago as well as our SAMA conference in Boston.

The fifth piece is a piece by Yulia Hanansen and was given to me as a gift in 2010. It is her signature layered technique. I love this piece and it hangs in my studio and inspires me to think outside the box when I create, much like Yulia did when she created this technique.
